This one-of-a-kind, digitally immersive journey blends cutting-edge technology, motion tracking, and haptic feedback to transport participants to the far reaches of the universe. 

Inspired by the research of Dr. Laurie Rousseau-Nepton, Canada’s first Indigenous astrophysicist, “To The Stars” explores themes of intergenerational wisdom, cosmic connectivity, and the quest for knowledge.

Step into the year 2117 and board the state-of-the-art spaceship Icari, equipped with groundbreaking motion-based controls that let you and your team navigate the stars. Using your body movements, you’ll work together to:

  • Walk-ins may be available, but due to high demand, we recommend booking your spot in advance to guarantee participation.

  • The prototype experience will be open at THEMUSEUM in downtown Kitchener, Ontario, from February 26 to March 16 2025, inclusive of March Break (last week of run).

  • Each session lasts approximately 40 minutes (depending on how quickly puzzles are solved). If you are signed up for a free closed focus group, the game experience will be followed by a 1-hour feedback session.

  • We recommend comfortable clothing. Be mindful that footwear would have to be taken off when entering the immersive escape room.

  • The experience is recommended for ages 8 and up, making it ideal for families, friends, and enthusiasts of all ages. This is a prototype so we are also testing and open to feedback about the minimum age.

  • Not at all! The experience is designed to be intuitive and accessible to both beginners and experienced players. There are no controllers—your movements naturally interact with the environment.

  • Each session can accommodate between 3 to 10 participants at a time, offering an interactive, team-based experience.

  • Unlike traditional escape rooms, To The Stars is a fully interactive, motion-tracked experience where players use their bodies to engage with the environment. The combination of haptic feedback, projection mapping, and a deep narrative makes it a one-of-a-kind adventure.

  • Yes, participants can play multiple times. While the core storyline remains the same, the collaborative nature of the game means that each session may unfold differently based on the team’s choices and actions.

  • Using advanced Augmenta.Tech motion-tracking sensors, participants’ movements control elements within the spaceship, such as navigation, system repairs, and interactive puzzles—no handheld controllers required.

  • Haptic feedback, powered by a chest-strap device, enhances immersion by allowing participants to feel environmental effects such as spaceship vibrations, impacts, and environmental changes. This haptics sensor is only for +12.

  • The haptic feedback is designed to enhance immersion without being overwhelming. Players will feel ship vibrations, impacts, and environmental cues, but the sensation is subtle and adjustable.

  • No, To The Stars is designed to be thrilling but not scary. There are no jump scares or horror elements—just a dynamic and immersive sci-fi adventure.

  • Participants should be able to walk and move freely, but the experience does not require strenuous activity. Light movement such as stepping onto designated areas or reaching out to interact with virtual controls is involved.

  • The experience involves light physical activity, flashing/ strobing lights, and haptic feedback. If you have medical concerns (e.g., pacemakers, sensory sensitivities), please consult with our staff before participating.

  • Yes! The experience is designed to accommodate various mobility needs. However, some interactive elements may require adjustments—please inform staff in advance to ensure the best experience.

  • We aim to be as inclusive as possible! While the experience does involve flashing lights and sound effects, we can adjust certain settings or provide alternative ways to engage. Let us know in advance so we can accommodate your needs.

  • Yes, haptic gear is optional. If you prefer to play without it, just let the staff know before your session begins.
